Starting mental tasks with the exercises

My son Alex is on the programme heading into his 6th week.  He has had his first exercise marked easy.  Its the one where he focusses on a pen, then a spot on the wall, counting up to switch every 5 seconds.  How on earth is he supposed to introduce a metal task into that exercise when we have to count the timing?  The time is way too short to fit in a mental task, because every 5 seconds you have to pay attention to switch your eye focus.  This is the first one that he is supposed to do.  The other is the brush winding on the can which is ok, but still presents difficulty just because it is adding something new.  Regards, Tina.

Is this a worry for the future Tina or have you been instructed to do mentals with that one? usually they will tell you which ones to do the mentals with but usually not so early as he is only in at 6 weeks. Some of the exercises will not have mental tasks I cannot remember Kieran having mentals with that one when he started. The main aim of that exercise is for his eye tracking which many of our children have problems with. Ellie XXX

    Hi

As Misselie says check you are supposed to be doing them, don't just start because you get an easy.

When we had ones like that I would click every five seconds to get G to move her eyes, re the mental - before we started we would have a list of things we would do colors, shapes etc and G would just carry on with the list until she got stuck and we would do a different category.

No.  alex actually got a tab that came up and told us to do the mental exercises with that exercise.  I went back and double checked because I didn't know about them and was really unsure how to do it with them.  It did give plenty of advise on what kind to do on the website, but because that was an exercise where timing is very important, introducing mentals into it made it very difficult again.  Anway, we got a routine going with it and havn't been told of any more to do since.  thanks for all your replies.  Tina.
