    Speech

    Hi

Just looking for advice please.  My son has always chatted to himself but in recent weeks it seems to be all the time, so much so that a friend of his at school mentioned it to me.Am worried, but am hoping it could just be a reaction to the brain rewiring.Has anyone had any experience in this?

    thanks Sarah

Absolutely my son has always done this and still does, I always hear him chatting away to himself.in his bedroom, No one has mentioned it at school but they seen to know and accept him, and I'm sure he does talk himself through things.

I posted this problem amongst all the others, a good few years ago on another site here:- http://www.beingdyslexic.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=1579&st=0&p=8522&hl="internal%20dialogue"&fromsearch=1&#entry8522   if you go tp post #20 there seems a good explanation of what could be happening, although Matthew can read quietly these days..

I mysel,f am often caught "talking to myself", colleagues at work often comment that my mouth is moving, I know I do it, my thoughts just seem to overflow, I don't think it's something to worry about - well I hope not!!

    Re: Speech

    Hi Sarah,

Absolutely!  Sometimes more than others. It seems to be a way to reinforce something they have learnt or are trying to make sense of and put their responses to. A bit like role play if you like. Research has shown  you learn more if you  'say and do ' together. Let him do whatever it takes to consolidate things. A drama club might help him to express himself better and give him confidence too.

Thanks so much for both replies, its so reassuring to know that Morgs isn't the only child to do this. Its not something I have been able to  ask people before. I am so glad I found this site!!

On a positive note, after being on the programme for almost 5 months, I really feel that we are beginning to turn the corner in so many ways. His writing which was very jagged before is now flowing really naturally , and that has only changed in last 2 weeks in a sudden way. He is suddenly getting invites from children again and he appears so much calmer.I can hardly believe it.I am aware though that he can still go backwards, but for now thiings are great and that is spurring us on and making it all worthwhile!!

    thanks again
