    Dore in administration!

We have just had a phone call cancelling our sons' third appointment on Tuseday as Dore are in administration.Bit od a shock to say the least, not too bothered about the money side of it (though it would be nice to get some backhowever unlikely that would seem) but more very disappointed for our son who is three months in and making good progress.

Im sure the full story will out eventually and lets hope somebody takes it on (the NHS??Maybe we should all get on to our MPs)

Lizbet, I take it from your reference to the NHS & MPs that you are in the UK?

    Re: Dore in administration!

Hi all, I'm really sorry to say it is true. Dore in the UK is in administration. We were informed just after lunch today, told it wuold be best if we left as there was no point staying. I want to say how sorry I am to all our clients, irrespective of what people thought, the programme was doing a huge good for people and really changing lives. I saw it every day, with most clients. I will miss the job dearly as I loved it very much, it was, in all, my ideal job. I wish again to extend my apologies to those that had been on the programme, especially the ones I know and saw, I wish there was more I could do. For those of you that saw me as a programme specialist, if you want to keep in contact, please message me on here, I cared very much for many of you, and i will miss you all dearly. Anthing I can help with, let me know, although I know no more than I no longer have a job. Lloyd.

I am devastated. What are we supposed to do now. My daughter was suicidal before Dore and now won't be able to finish the programme. How do I stop her regressing? So sorry about your job Lloyd. A big thankyou to all the amazing staff at Dore Romsey especially Chris.

     Hi Lloyd

We really hope something can be sorted out.  Our son is just two and a half months in to the programme and is showing real improvement.  We will continue with the exercises we currently have in the hope someone steps in to help out.

It is with great regret that we have to announce that Dore has been put into the hands of advisors. As a result Dore is closing all of the UK centres which deliver the Dore Programme with immediate effect. We are determined to find a way for every client who is on the program to have their treatment completed. We are presently exploring alternative arrangements to ensure every client is cared for. We will be updating this page of our website every few days with news regarding alternative arrangements for continued programme delivery so please check frequently. We still want to help people to identify any learning difficulties they may be struggling with, so we are continuing to make our online symptoms test available. We will provide you with a personal report that outlines any learning difficulty and the likely severity.

I'm sorry to hear about this, nobody wanted it to end like this.

Just a quick note to say don't despair about your children not recieving treatment.  Specific learning disabilities often improve over time without intervention and if they do not they need not be a barrier to educational achievement.  It might take a bit more work on the part of you parents and it will need sympathetic teachers but there is no need to spend thousands of pounds to achieve success for your children.  I speak from personal experience, I am completely unable to write without the aid of a computer and suffered a torrid time at school as it was not recognised I had a problem (well they thought I had behaviour problems) until I was 14.   Once it was accepted that my problems were largely not my fault (I admit I was quite disrespectful of teachers which may have given me a reputation) and developed methods of coping (using a computer and electronic diary mainly) I had no problems and did relatively well at school.  I since went on to university and gained a phd in biological sciences.  I still can't function without a computer and do have the occasional problem with organisation but this is not a barrier to success, just something I have to deal with and accept.  Throughout all this I had the support of my family and that was the most important thing.

Eraina: 'make sure you all swap emails etc in case this site gets closed down too.'

A suggestion, if I may? Put up another forum while this site is still up, so whatever happens next you still have a way to keep in touch with everyone else affected. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more parents in the next weeks looking for information and support, and it could be useful to keep that going in a form which won't shut if this website does.

Googling 'build forum free' comes up with lots of sites which look relatively simple to use, so you can get something up quickly for now. I'd offer to help but not sure it'd be welcomed!

I'd echo what Gimpy said. If there's one thing which just about everyone in educational psychology will agree, it's that the support, care and hope of care-givers is massively important to children's development. If you've got the dedication and committment to try DORE, you are already doing well on that. My dissertation project has involved research on people with SpLDs at university, and I have dyspraxia myself. Many of us find ways to work around our differences or even use them to advantage. Don't give up, and good luck to you all.

Eraina - I have stuck a very basic forum up at  http://dore.usersboard.com/

I'm happy to hand over admin rights to anyone who'd like them, since I appreciate a lot of people won't see me as the most trustworthy person for the job. I would suggest bookmarking the address above so it's there for back-up if these boards go down suddenly.

    Re: Dore in administration!

Mark, it doesn't look like those in Australia will get anything at all, according to the official administrators today. In the UK, if DORE go into liquidation it depends on how much money there is left, but I would expect people not to get everything back and be prepared that it may be nothing.

I'll post the information & consumer rights etc on my blog as soon as I can, should be up this evening. the most important thing to do in terms of getting money back is probably registering as a creditor (this applies to staff unpaid salaries too). As soon as I find who is dealing with the administration I will post it here. If anyone else knows or finds this out, please post & circulate it ASAP.

I've been passed on this statement for the media, sent by Phil Hall (DORE's PR person) this morning:

'Dore UK has not gone into administration. A spokesman for Dore said: "The business is being restructed to make it more cost efficient. We will be communicating directly with our clients. Plans are being drawn up to ensure that every patient is able to complete their programme. Wynford Dore has subsidised the programme to the tune of £15 million and is unable to sustain that level of investment any longer.'

This seems at variance with what's been posted on here, particularly if staff have had their contracts terminated. More info when I get it.
