Oh thanks. Isn't it strange how different parts of the country do different things. We do SATS in Years 2 and 6 and then again in Year 9 at Secondary. My daughter has hers coming up next year for Year 9.

Leila also has her SATS next year in year 9 and also planning for her GCSE's as well, we found year 8 was a funny year, mainly in limbo because there was not the usual SAT's or planning for the years ahead and the children were half way between a child and a teenager. Ellie XXXX

Hi, sats are compulsory in yrs 2,6, and 9 in england (not private schools tho).  Schools can use optional sats for every year inbetween, and make them as official as they want.

It helps to show progress between years as they are a 'consistent' test.

well this time of year (school report)  is a time i used to dread, but having just received jordans school report i wanted to brag.!

'Jordan is a very pleasant and friendly member of the class with a 'wicked' sense of humour. He interacts well with other children and has demonstrated the ability to work well both independently as well as in group situations..

Jordan has really settled down well this year and has shown an increasing maturity.  His standard of work has improved well but he does need to remain committed to increasing the quantity of work produced, particularly in Literacy, by remaining focused for longer periods of time.

Jordans knowledge and understanding of the world around him is very good and he regularly contributes towards classroom discussuions.  His listening skills have definately improved as the year has progressed, but i cannot say the same for his organisational skills! But that's Jordan!!

It has been a pleasure to teach him and watching as he has developed into a responsible member of my class, who has been justly rewarded for the effort he has made this year. Well done Jordan and keep up the good work next year!'

he got 'good' in maths, english and RE and 'very goods' in everything else!!!

Keenan also got 'very goods' in every subject!

makes a wonderful change to say the very least... xx

Well done Jordan and congratulations Eraina. It must be a wonderful relief to see progress. How long has Jordan been doing Dore  and how has it helped. My 10 year old son, Conor, has been on it nearly 1 year. He's due his school report Monday !

hiya claire, jordan did dore for 13 mths and finished two years ago....before he was a child who had the ability locked into his head but couldnt get it down on paper..now he is flying high and is above his peers in most areas. he still struggles with spelling as he missed out on some important literacy 'lessons' ie word structure, blending sounds, spelling rules etc that would normally be learnt and retained from 4-7yrs...but when he learns a spelling now he remembers it... where as before he would have forgotten his own name!!!

also we no longer have any behavioural problems....especially at school where he is fast becoming a favourite with All the teachers even the most formidable...lol

he has a fantastic teacher this year that has seen jordans potential and worked really hard with him to get the best out of him..a big change to the teachers that called him noisy, lazy and stupid.... AND the best news is that due to a change of headteacher she is now a year six teacher and has 'wangled' jordan into her class again and will also take him for literacy and maths....we may consider some extra tution(next term) in preperation for secondary school .....I have a lot to thank that teacher for, however i KNOW that if Jordan hadnt done the Dore programme he would have been struggling at the bottom of the class and still being as miserable as he was...it gave him the ability to reach his potential....now the hard work is down to him..and his teacher....

    Re: Bragging Rights Thread

Thanks for your response Eraina. Jordan sounds similar to Conor. He's in year 5. His teacher left on maternity leave in the first term and initially I was gutted because she had a strong reputation. I was starting to have my concerns as the empathy just didn't seem to be there. Conor has dyslexia consisting inter alia with short term memory and processing problems and stuggling to get his thoughts out verbally and particularly in written form. A temporary teacher started and at parents evening in March we were looking through work he had done and the previous teacher had written in red " This is full of spelling mistakes and you even had use of a dictionary !" How unbelievable! Well I was upset and dismayed and realised what a blessing in disguise her maternity leave was. His temporary teacher has been lovely and sending home homework on coloured paper and just trying different things with him. Up to then, I just kept being told that despite some aspects of Conor's dyslexia being assesssed moderate to severe because he was attaining national average he was not entitled to any support even though the pyschologist assessed him as bright. It was so frustrating but this teacher has improved his confidence ( up to this year he was calling himself stupid) and even last Thursday said that sometimes Conor can't get his thoughts out and then says " Oh forget it " but she tells him his thoughts are just as important as everyone else's and that they will all be patient to allow him time to articulate his views. Isn't that just wonderful! I have  a much happier child this year.

It just shows what a supportive teacher can help to achieve. And reassuring to know that Conor may one day start to realise his potential like Jordan.

Billiant news Eraina and another 'well done' to Jordan.

Eleanor won second prize at school for her project on Dyslexia and Dore, and second prize in the year group for credit awards. She got a £15 and £25 book token respectively, something that would have made her want to cry a year ago. Now she can't wait to get to the book shop!

    As you say, DORE ROCKS!!!!

Still keep pinching myself, it still feels quite weird that she can read, I'm so used to her not being able to.

Her walking's much better now, she actually looks like a young lady! Anyone else found that walking has improved? She didn't tend to fall over much, more that her general posture is so much better, she used to lean forwards and now she's much more upright. Lovely to see.

Thats great to see improvements.Well done to you both. Julia has been on the program for 18 months, walking and running has improved greatly. Julia had many falling incidents an had an awkward style when walking and running. Can just notice it slightly now.She now participates in team sports, doing well, took her along time to master her swimming strokes, is now showing improvement.Julia was severely dyspraxiac, so these are great achievements. It hasn't been easy with getting Julia to do excercises. When Dore went into liquidation in Australia, I nearly called it quits, but thanks to all the great people on this forum, you all gave me the strength to continue to help my daughter.Donnaxx
