Hi Bugalug, many thanks can go to you. You are so supportive and helpful towards people on this forum and always so positive. I wish you and Harry all the best.I also think Julia has a way to go, but will get there, just keep saying to myself, think of the benefits this will have for Julia, long term.

We had Leila's school report on Friday and she is on her way to gaining the required exam results for her to undertake her GCSE's in year 10. This would never have been even feasiable pre -dore with her global difficulties, she has come a long way and it has been a long road for her and us.

She has to reach grade 5 by the end of year 9 to be considered feasiable for her to get good grades in her GCSE's, she has gianed all 4+ for all her major subjects this year in 8. For all those that feel unsure or afraid of what the future holds, take heart and confidence that if Leila can do it then anyone can with Dores help. Ellie XXX

Ok my turn. We had Matthews SENCo review letter today Matthew's reading age has improved by 2.5 yrs since July 2007. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Matthew did a swimming distance badge yesterday, his last one was 400m amd he swam...................................... 1 mile (1600m)!. I was really impressed with his stamina, he kept giving me the thumbs up every time he passed me, he also shouted after 50 laps,"I'm not even out of breath" yet. He's going up a class and doing his Bronze award next.

    Laura's SAT's results.

Maths .....Level 3  (fantastic result as she had very little understanding of maths a year ago)

    Science...Level 4  ( only 1 mark away from level 5 )

    Literacy...Level 4

    Reading...Level 4

    Writing....Level 4  (6 marks short of level 5)

It was a fantastic feeling to see the words " AT EXPECTED LEVEL " for literacy on her school report this year for the first time. She is still below the expected level for maths but has done fantastically well this year. I'm sure she'll catch up very soon.

One of Laura's aims was to reach the highest level of reading book before leaving year 6. She is thrilled to have achieved it last week. Her smile was priceless. Laura has also caught the reading bug big time! She is reading paperbacks with around 100 to 130 pages. The only thing is, if she starts reading one at bedtime she won't stop reading until she has finished the whole book. I haven't got the heart to stop her, we've waited so long for her to read for pleasure. She read 10 books in 2 weeks and since then we've lost count. She also continues to write stories and poems just for fun. She's doing so well I have a feeling she'll be put on wind down exercises soon. (she's getting "easies" on almost all of them).

Keep going with those exercises everyone. When everything finally starts "coming together" it's better than winning the lottery.

I agree with everyone else Debbie, Laura has and continues to benefit greatly from Dore, I would say Dore has done what it says on the label "given her the ability to finally learn on a par with her peers" Now she will develop as she should without the LD's to hinder her progress. Go for it Laura. Ellie XXX

    Re: Bragging Rights Thread

As a very proud mum, I have to say that my son, Seth, who has been on the programme since March 07, has had brilliant results in his GCSE's.

When he went in to year 10, we were told that he would do foundation level, after his Summer exams in year 10, 4 months into the programme; they moved him to higher level. He has now had his results, 1 A 4 B's 4 C's and 3A's in his Welsh Bac. I am very proud. He worked hard - but our biggest thanks must go to Dore. The school, we as parents and he himself knows that without the programme it would have been a very different story.

We are sorry he won't get the opportunity the wonderful Cardiff staff (or actually any staff) in person, so I hope you are reading this THANK YOU from Seth and me.

He is going back to the 6th form, to take his AS level, something he never dreamed he would do, so thank you very much, we just wish we could say it in person.

Laura came home from school and told me that she was putting her hand up to answer every question in science today and was getting them all right. In the end her teacher had to tell her to give the others a chance to answer. I told her that if she keeps that up she'll be put in the top set to which she answered "I already am". I'm so proud of her.
