    Headaches, Strops, Moody.....

    Hi all,

My son (12) has been on Dore since middle of March.  He has had about 3 headaches since starting the program and was unwell again this morning with a headache again plus light headed, feeling sick.

He is a bit moody and stroppy sometimes but whether that is DORE or just his age I can't tell.

The 'oh do we have to do Dore' has kicked in already but I don't budge - ha ha.

Just wondered what other peoples experiences were in regards to this.

    Thanks,

    Jackie (ydoowmai)

I would say this is the normal "brain having a fight" period. Harry went through this around 6 weeks, was very stroppy and actually went backwards both socially and academically. These periods pass and are usually followed by a good positive forward step. Look out for it!

Hi My son started the programme on the 3/3/09 after the 2/3 appointment. He too has had quite a few headaches, nothing serious they go away straight away with calpol. We have noticed he is chatting a lot more, his reading seems a litttle faster. We too have strops- the exercises do not take long but getting him to do them some days takes 45 mins and then other days he does them straight away and he is always saying why do I have to do them for a year?! Unfortunately his behaviour at school has deteriorated and this is what I find the hardest- not too bad at home on the whole, I can only assume he does not understand half of what is going on. We have just been on holiday and he has done fantastic talking, socialising, cycling, walking and football but his behaviour most nights at teatime was very toddler like and tourettesish saying inappropriate and rude things for a laugh! Can't wait for a whole week of good behaviour at school!     Tracey

Bugalug, Tracey, thanks so much for your replies.  There are a great help.   We are 6-7 weeks in so I guess the headaches are bang on time!

Luke always does his DORE. He usually has his moan and whinge but in the last week or so have found that if I ask him 'what time do you want to do your DORE?'  (He knows they have to be done in morning and evening), he tends not to whinge.  Maybe because he feels he is calling the shots and deciding.  Usually he says 'oh I will do it in 30 minutes'.

He has definitely got more chatty and he has grown in confidence.  He is always well behaved at school but he is one of those who likes to blend into the background and quite happily not be seen or heard though his teachers have commented on him joining in a lot more and becoming more vocal.  Like I said previously, he doesn't have any diagnosis, he is just a slow learner with poor short term memory.  But things are on the up.  I hope we don't go through the 'going backwards for a period of time' patch but I am now aware to look out for it.

He hasn't had a headache for a week now.  It's strange when they happen, there seems to be no pattern to it.  So you think it is when the cerebellum is kicking in?????
