    Anger, bad attitude.

    Hi all,

My son is 12, on Dore approx 9 weeks and seems to be getting stroppier than ever.  Is it his age, is it Dore?

He has always struggled making friends although he has friends at school.  Now it's school holidays and he is more than happy to just sit at home all day.  He has no interest in going to knock on friends doors to play out, doesn't ever think to get their mobile tel no's. or ring them up to make plans.  He thinks he is going to sit at home on his laptop all day.  I know times have changed from the days when kids only had 'playing out' as an option as we did not have pc's, 50 channels etc etc but I'm always seeing kids out on their bikes, skateboards, playing footie at the park etc.

How can I, what can I do to encourage him to get up off his backside and go out and get some good old fashioned fresh air???

This morning I have told him there is no internet, xbox, tv, nothing.  We've had a row about it all and he has gone and knocked for a friend and they are now in the garden playing on the trampoline.  But is this what I have to do?

Is staying at home and not going out normal or expected behaviour?

It seems to get him to do anything he has to be prompted.  He forgets where he has left his trainers, his mobile, his keys.  He can't find anything unless it jumps up and bites him on the nose.

It's all driving me nuts. Help!

My son's 11 and prefers to stay in he actually has to be prized off the sofa. He has 1 good friend who loves to be out, and calls constantly (can be a bit much sometimes). matthew groans and moans but once he is out, he enjoys himself and stays out for hours. Some days he runs and hides as he is just too tired to go out. This is after Dore but before he was very reclusive. His friend is actually dyspraxic but has overcome alot of it through years of OT. I think alot of families have this problem of "technology" taking over not just for SEN children, just think of the obesity figures, we just have to calmly fight back against it. I also tell them if the sun is shining they have to go out, but if they stay out for say 2 hours they can build up some technology time. Our TV that the PS2 is plugged into recently packed in- it's bliss. although he has moved over to computer games now- dam, I have to fight 4 my computer now.

He might be going through the tough patch that can be seen with dore clients sounds about the right time, keep going it'll pass i'm sure.

    Lelly88,

Thanks for you reply.  It sure does get you down.  Constant moaning and whinging, stroppy & bad attitude drives me nuts!

So do you think it is a tough patch and is it about this time that it can surface?

We are on two weeks school holiday (our school has slightly different hol dates) and it is actually harder to get him to do Dore.  Well I say harder, it isn't actually hard but what I mean is he says 'oh I got all morning, I don't have to do it straight away'.  But to be honest I'm so stern and strict and don't budge so when I say I want it done by 10am I mean it and don't give in.  (Someone on here gave me that advice right at the start.  Wise words too).  It's just all the extra ear-ache that comes with it.  But hopefully it will pass.

    Thanks again,

    ydoowmai
