Can't relate to those exact feelings GillC, but Harry definintely seemed to backtrack initially. He is now doing great. Academically, his progress is a bit slower than his social skills seem to be.
He is obviously way behind as we didn't start Dore until Year 5 (I think). He was predicted to get 2B in Science at the end of Year 7, and his end of term result (the only one so far) is a 3B - that's a jump of 3 levels. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, there is more to come. He's also just got his green belt in karate - see my blog. For his next grade, he needs to know about 12 katas, and he said tonight "before Dore, I would only remember about 2" - his balance on one leg is absolutely amazing!!!! We were laughing tonight, remembering him hopping about all over the front room a few years ago!
I think this is the adjustment phase. Look out for the progress - for us it did seem to take a few months.
