    After DORE

Hi, we completed DORE just after Easter this year and I am seeing some strange things happening with Gabriel in the last 2 weeks. He has spent a week being very quiet and for a kid with ADHD that is unheard of! I thought he was ill and kept checking his temperature. Now he is crying a lot (not like him to cry ever!) and saying the kids in his class make fun of him. He has also said he thinks the other kids are on "another level" not with school work but he explains it as like being in a video game. Although he still has a lot of ADHD behaviours he does seem less angry but now says he missess being angry, I suppose it protected him at school.

He keeps asking to stop his medication but can't concentrate without it.

Sound familiar? Any thoughts would be helpful I feel I'm in the dark with this.

Can't relate to those exact feelings GillC, but Harry definintely seemed to backtrack initially. He is now doing great. Academically, his progress is a bit slower than his social skills seem to be. He is obviously way behind as we didn't start Dore until Year 5 (I think). He was predicted to get 2B in Science at the end of Year 7, and his end of term result (the only one so far) is a 3B - that's a jump of 3 levels. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, there is more to come. He's also just got his green belt in karate - see my blog. For his next grade, he needs to know about 12 katas, and he said tonight "before Dore, I would only remember about 2" - his balance on one leg is absolutely amazing!!!! We were laughing tonight, remembering him hopping about all over the front room a few years ago! I think this is the adjustment phase. Look out for the progress - for us it did seem to take a few months.
